    Here’s how we did it:
While we were in Massachusetts we visited the Social Security Office. With only a drivers license (out of state was fine) and our marriage certificate we were able to change my name *federally* as long as we were still in a state where the marriage certificate was recognized. Then when we came back here to AZ all we had to do was show the MVD my new Social Security Card and our marriage license (now needed as proof of REASON for the change, not proof of the change itself). It was really easy! THANK GOD we got overly excited and went to the Social Security Office in MA. It wasn’t part of the plan, but made our lives much easier. . . and saved us the $300 AZ change of name fee. ;)

I agree completely, I think that the majority of my photography peers probably use contracts, etc that make use of the traditional term; bride and groom. There are those, however, who have made a special effort to be sure that their contracts and all related client information use inclusive terms (my contract, for instance – just has a spot for "Couple’s Information" with space for two people to fill out name, address, etc. The signature section just reads "Party One" and "Party Two".

As a member of the LGBT community, recently hired to shoot two same sex ceremonies, next fall I realize on a personal level just how important these small things really are.

Kudo’s to the NYT for making the leap and thanks for sharing!
