Todd and Austin's Engagement Session and a Few Words to the State of Arizona

I had the pleasure of meeting Todd and Austin at this April's Phoenix Pride Wedding Expo. Both of these gentlemen ran in to the MRSter wedding tent to meet me and the rest of the founders of MRSter.com. They were so thankful and excited to find this resource online and immediately expressed their gratitude. Shortly after we arranged for the FABuLISTvendor Chris and Tammie Billey of Largo Photographyto shoot their wedding engagement session. These fine boys will soon be married in Boston, Mass then throwing a reception in Mesa. Here is a touch of what they have to say to Arizona about their union and a few shots from the photography shoot. Thank you so much boys for allowing myself and Largo Photography into a small portion of your love story.

Maiden Names and Married Names

Guest Blogger :: Drew

What's in a name, really?  For Andy and I, it is how we identify as one happy family, so we want to share our last name after the wedding. But how? Hyphenate with Coleman-Erickson? No, that would get really old after signing my name about twice. Mix the two and go for Coleickson or Erickman?  Nah, doesn't really roll off of the tongue. Well, Andy offered to give up his name so we could both take mine. Coming soon, Mr. and Mr. Andrew and Drew Coleman!

What to Wear to Your Engagement Shoot

While it's true your wardrobe says a lot about who you are, and I'll admit, I scoured at least four different bridal boutiques when searching for THE dress for my own wedding, selecting an outfit for your engagement session should be no pressure!  Still, if you are standing at your closet brimming with options, and thinking “I have nothing to wear,” then worry no further.  Here are a few tips on making those pictures postcard-worthy!

Images found here.

1. Keep it simple: Crazy patterns and bright fluorescents don't always look so hot on film. Going with a solid color that you know you can rock usually ends up looking the best.

2. Your favorite shoes: You know that pair of shoes that you wear five times a week even though you have more shoes than you can count collecting dust in your closet? Wear them! Wear the outfit that is very "you."  After all, in five years, when you have worn that pair of shoes ragged, they will live on in your pictures!

3.Bring the orange scarf: Funky accessories really add to the composition of the photograph.  You don't have to wear it in every shot, but it's an easy way to mix it up, and add a more playful element to your session.

4.Don't leave Snookums and Pooch at home: (Alright, so you can't really wear your pet, but this is a good tip regardless!) Bring your puppies/kitties/goldfish with you!  Okay, the fish might be a little tough, but you get the idea. They'll bring on the candids like it's their job.

5. Bring a wardrobe change: Can't decide between two solid outfits?  Bring both!  It's always good to have more than one option, especially if one is casual and the other is a bit dressier. Variety, my friends, truly is the spice of life.

6. Get your partner's input: Your future spouse probably knows what you look really great in, so have them help you decide.

7. Layer, layer, layer:  Layering allows you to achieve several different looks with the same base outfit.  Adding a cardigan or fun belt to the same basic outfit can completely change your look.  Not to mention a fitted blazer is super slimming and adorable with your favorite pair of jeans.

Just remember, don't over-think your outfit. With the radiant-I'm-so-in-love-glow you’re sure to have, you're going to look absolutely fabulous no matter what you wear.

First Gay Wedding Couple Integrated with Bridal Magazine in Arizona

I am so excited to share this news with you. The amazing women at the Wedding Chronicle have ignited the need for unity in their engagement issue of their wedding magazine. Advisory board member Drew and his partner Andy were included in the spread on engagement photo sessions along with the engagned hetero couples. What was so wonderful was that it wasn't blown out of proportion. It was slipped in along with the others as not to attract attention but give that sense of unity that we are fighting for. I thought it was beautifully done and am so proud that some of our FabUlist vendors also advertise with the magazine due to it's support in the LGBTQ community. I encourage you to check out their website for their online edition. Angie and the ladies at the Wedding Chronicle produce an amazing publication and all of us who support Mrster and rights for same sex weddings and marriages are so proud of them. I am looking forward to more of this in all of our wedding magazines very soon. Mark my words...others will follow.

Angelen VanDaele, publisher of the magazine writes "We wanted the Wedding Chronicle to be the first publication in Arizona to publish a picture of a same sex couple. So many of my friends and industry professionals are GLBT and we believe they deserve to be honored just like any other committed, loving couple. As soon as a beautiful commitment ceremony is submitted, the Wedding Chronicle will be happy and proud to publish it as well. We received lots of letters to the editor for this issue but I felt the following letter was typical of the responses we received and understood exactly what we intended to do by inserting Drew and Andy's picture." (see letter below)

Dear Wedding Chronicle,

Just wanted to say how pleasantly surprised I was to see the Drew Coleman - Andy Erickson engagement announcement in the "Engagements We Love" section of your May/June issue. With all of the debate around legal recognition of same sex couples, it was truly wonderful and refreshing to see Drew and Andy included with the other loving, committed couples. I also appreciate that they were not made into a spectacle or a statement, but rather portrayed just like any other loving couple. May your tasteful publication be a model for others to follow. Thank you!
Sincerely,
M. S.

When I asked Drew and Andy to comment about the layout this is what they had to say: "Andy and I are so proud of Angie and her team at the Wedding Chronicle for making the quiet statement of inclusiveness in their magazine. We were flattered that Sergio wanted to submit our picture and honored that the Wedding Chronicle posted it. We know that our photo and our story is only the first and excited to see that it won’t be the last."

What an impact it made across our state! So excited and so proud. Congratulations to Andy and Drew for sharing their engagement pictures and a big bravo to Sergio Photographer for being such a talented wedding photographer.

With all that Life has to offer,

Cicely
