Global Gala: Poverty Stricken in Pakistan

With the oversaturation of wedding media telling you how to create the perfect wedding (ie: Martha Stewart Weddings, Modern Bride, The Knot, etc.), the typical US wedding ends up following a very specific formula.  While many couples find ways to personalize their big day, it's difficult to think outside the box when the celebrations we read about all follow the same basic blueprint.  With that in mind, Mrster plans to regularly post about global galas to provide our readers with international inspiration.  After all, a little perspective never hurt anyone!

Today's celebration comes from Pakistan.  One similarity between weddings in America and those in Pakistan? The price tag.  However, it seems couples living below the poverty line in Pakistan have found a way to dodge the bill with a little help from the government.

You are looking at more than 150 Pakistani brides at a mass marriage ceremony in Sindh.  It's a common practice for the Indian government to aid couples that simply can't afford a lavish affair.

While you may not be too keen on the idea of sharing your wedding day with hundreds of other couples, it definitely makes you think twice about the linen upgrade and $700 footwear.  Our suggestion?  Forego favors, and instead make a donation to a worthy charity in your guests' honor!
