Wedding Porn :: Make it Your Own

Guest Blogger :: Rhonda

Along with the modern union comes modern technology, which ultimately revolves around our beloved Internet. Affectionately dubbed "wedding porn," we peruse through the nuptials of strangers, have Martha's centerpiece ideas bookmarked in our favorites and receive blog feeds from celebrity planners... and that's just the list for people NOT planning a wedding. We just can't help ourselves; there's so much cuteness out there it can make your head spin. If you ARE planning a wedding, at the very least it can be a bit overwhelming. One bouquet link leads to another dress link which inevitably leads you to a wordpress featuring the wedding of the most beautiful people you've ever seen in your life with the cleverest ideas, creative photos and all the things you wish you had thought of. Next thing you know the wine bottle is empty, it's infomercial time on the tube and you've e-mailed all your closest friends pictures of things you think you could do better yourself from Etsy.

So let's be rational. Don't get rid of the wine, but definitely sit down with yourself and your beloved, minus the Internet and talk about the things that matter to you most...the things that make you, as a couple, distinctive. It's YOUR wedding.

Now go check your blog roll for this RSS feed.

Hire Jay-Z to DJ Your Wedding

Rumor has it, Jay-Z wants to dive into the world of wedding receptions. Taking time away from rapping, songwriting, and producing, this media mogul wants to try his hand at the turntables. He plans to put on quite a show too, complete with a video screen playing behind him and live backup dancers. His services won't come cheap, of course. The multi-millionaire artist plans to research the highest paid DJ, and then charge double! While the wedding reception would certainly be talked about for years to come, I'm thinking he may steal some of the spotlight from the couple, no? Would you hire Jay-Z to DJ your wedding?

Changing the Norm with a New Wedding Form

Guest Blogger :: Shannon

My fiancée and I are planning a fairytale wedding and have the honor of working with many fabulous vendors. While shopping around, we found that most vendors, or wedding resources, provide a form to fill out with information including the most obvious information…bride and groom.

As members of the Mrster.com advisory board and the LGBTQ movement, we have found that even our favorite vendors have outdated forms. Luckily for us they were happy to make a quick change that reflects the partnership Erika and I have. I was excited to see the New York Times "NEW Wedding Announcement Online Form" and guess what? The online form provides for three choices; Legal Marriage, Civil Union and Commitment Ceremony.

If you’ve read my blogs before, you know I prefer calling my wedding a wedding but this was refreshing. I’m just hoping one day, there won’t need to be choices. If we change the norm, we can change the form.

Guest Blogger, Shannon Williams and her fiancée are sharing with us their journey of planning their same-sex wedding. Read more about them here.

Celebrity Wedding: Mark Wahlberg and Rhea Durham Tie the Knot

Guest Blogger :: Sarah

Actor and producer, Mark Wahlberg, married long time partner and model, Rhea Durham over the weekend.  The intimate ceremony took place at the picturesque Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Beverly Hills.

With a mere 20 guests in attendance, the couple kept their special day low key, but unsurprisingly still managed to turn plenty of paparazzi heads.

Durham opted for understated elegance in her strapless Marchesa gown, while Wahlberg kept it simple with a clean and classic look.

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds headed back home for a small gathering with close friends and family.

I love how effortless the whole day feels.  For being show biz A-listers, their down-to-earth nuptials were anything but showy.  That's the way to do it, Hollywood!

Wedding Stress and Ideas on How to Relax

Guest Blogger :: Erika

Working out with the Wii isn’t just getting your body healthy for what will be one of the happiest memories of your life, but it can also help you mentally unwind from the sometimes crazy wedding planning process.

In order for our dream wedding to happen, my fiancée and I must work our tails off. Not only do we have the wedding to plan, but also are working on our house, as we just purchased it in February. And we are greatly looking forward to starting our family soon after the wedding. We both work full time, so after a long day of “a case of the Mondays,” driving home 40 minutes in traffic can sometimes leave you feeling too tired to go through guest address Excel spread sheets, floral arrangements, and a linen company that does not have your perfect PINK color.

Working out, a bath and a book or even a nice “out to eat” with your future Mr. or Mrs. can be just the ticket to getting you back to your normal “no-I-do-not-like-taffeta-for-my-dream-dress” self! Take in a movie at home, take Spot for that much needed walk, call up a friend you haven’t spoken with in a while because you have been “too busy working and planning a wedding!” Still a little too warm outside for a weekend outing here? Check out your city museum for a new show or spend the afternoon at the library (looking at party planning books, of course!).

Visit the Phoenix Art Museum's "Locals Only" exhibit.

Whether it be a weekend getaway or a hike of one our beautiful Valley mountains, whatever you need to do to get yourself back to healthy mental status, enjoy and make it fun.

Until next time, live well, love well, be well! ~E~
