Revamping the Heat

Outdoor space heaters are a necessary evil. You want to keep guests warm, but the giant metal suckers are an eyesore. What's that in the back of every damn photo, ruining the shot? The stainless monstrosity of heat. Save your photographer from Photoshopping them out by using the Kindle Glow

These gorgeous heaters are made from composite material, come in shades from black to blue, and some models light up independent of the heat source. Ask your planner about renting the Kindle Glow, or buy one for your patio. Keeping warm just became stylish.

Their Chair + Your Picture :: Custom Upholstery Printing

When this announcement landed in my email inbox my mouth dropped and all I could say was, "whoa, the possibilities really are infinite." Luckily one of our vendors on our FabUlist can help bring these customized wonders to Phoenix. Creative Event Rentals can connect with the furniture distributor and slap your high res image on it. It could be a photograph, a pattern, graphic, or text. I would love to do some creative damage to these babies. How freaking cool is this?

Fairytale Wedding Colors: Pink, Black & Silver

Guest Blogger :: Shannon

My favorite color is orange. If you know me, you know I drive a bright orange car and I love it. Erika's favorite color is blue and yes, her car is blue as well. For our wedding we surprised ourselves. We are thinking pink. The funny thing is I’m not a huge fan of pink, but a long time ago we thought pink, black and silver would be fabulous. It has been hard at times to envision those colors together especially because we are not overly “girly”…but wait, before you question it, we are feminine and appreciate being so. So watch it!

Pink: Not baby pink, hot pink, sexy pink, light pink, dark pink, fuchsia, but a beautiful mix of pink that we like to call watermelon. Well, Erika found a piece of this watermelon hued fabric that is A M A Z I N G…

Black: easy. Just the classic and ever-dependable color.

Silver: Not shiny light gray silver, and not dark charcoal gray silver…but silver, like the jewelry. We don’t want silver ribbons, silver curly thingys, just silver accents throughout.

Our fairy tale will be budget-friendly and creative. I’ve received fabulous ideas from friends and family for centerpieces, flowers, cake, décor, table settings, etc. One of my favorite suggestions came from my cousin Lindsey: Utilize the “cake” or cupcakes in our centerpieces and stack the cupcakes on nice trays and then sprinkle the table with edible glitter or flower petals! LOVE IT!

Erika and I get our own small cake with two hot divas on top.

I found some awesome cakes that would look super cute in cupcake form…I am so excited.

The pieces of the puzzle are beginning to form. Hmmmm....what will our fairy tale look like?

Think pink!

The Perfect Lighting

Guest blogger :: Gina

Another item to add to your wedding to-do list: Lighting. I know the list can seem endless, and lighting might be way down in the ranks, but it can make your event magical with a few easy ideas.

Candlelight creates instant drama, and custom candles are a great place to tie in your event's personal color scheme. Choose a local candle company (one I use often in the Phoenix area is Candles West), provide a swatch of your wedding colors, and candles can be poured to your size and shape specifications. The quality is far superior to what you will find at a big-name store, and will last for hours and hours. Send the gently-used candles home with guests, or use them yourself for future parties.

The truly "green" way to go is to purchase solar lanterns for a soft, ambient light.  These lanterns can be hung ahead of time, as their glow time increases the longer they are left out in the sun.  Hung in trees, down the aisle on shepherd's hooks, or strung across an arbor, you won't have to fuss over lighting cords or batteries with this eco-friendly option.

Looking to create ambiance on the cheap?  Believe it or not, Ikea has plenty of affordable options, including bags of tealights for next to nothing and a great selection of glass holders to put them in. For a more dramatic look, taper candles in simple holders are stunning. Mix different heights and holders for an eclectic look, or stick with a monochromatic design if your style leans to the contemporary.

Your guests may not remember what type of lighting you used at your wedding, but they will recall the mood, spirit and flattering aura that the right illumination will provide.
