The Orpheum Penthouse :: A New Downtown Phoenix Venue :: Grand Opening :: Corporate Night

A few weeks ago I invited you all to an amazing new venue in downtown Phoenix called the Orpheum Penthouse. Wednesday was our first night and we catered (no pun intended) to the corporate clients, including CVBs, Chambers, DMCs, etc. Here are some pictures from both Rhonda Lewis Photographyand James J. Barnett Photography. It was a jam-packed evening and the night couldn't have been more beautiful. Thank you to all who came out and supported this new venue.

 Me and my cocktails...I loved this idea from Santa Barbara Catering...a fizzy soda fountain. Doesn't this concoction look amazing?

These grapefruit martinis were a huge hit.

 Colorful, fresh and so, so yummy.

One thing I LOVE about this caterer is the outstanding presentation...check out these ahi tuna cones! On a bed of nails, no less! (below)

Loved this arrangement Gina made for us. The feathers were so what we needed!

 We had an awesome sound mix...DJ coupled with a sax player. It was rad!

The outside south patio fireplace which is the second of two. Could you imagine sitting by the fire 11 floors up in downtown Phoenix? I can.

Look for tomorrow's post on the social night. That, too, was outstanding.
Thanks again to all the vendors that made this night possible.

Napa Valley Nuptials

Guest Blogger:: Gina

I came across photos of this amazing winery in Napa Valley, CA, and had to share. The modern design elements thrown in with the dark wood and rustic appeal of wine barrels is pure genius. Reception in a cave without the bat guano --count me in!

Merus winery has a large cave reception space, tasting room and gorgeous surroundings:

Incredible design (and photos) by Uxus, an Amsterdam-based company with a flair for merging new with well-lived.

How Our Venue Found Us

Guest Blogger :: Drew

Planning a wedding as a wedding professional certainly has it's pros, but there are some hidden cons too. For me, the main drawback was deciding which wedding vendors to work with. There are so many great vendors out there and I would pick them all if I could! Andy and I managed to assemble a great team that we are really looking forward to working with, but we were still having a really hard time finding a place to get hitched.

Part of our problem was that I couldn't pick one venue since I work at all of them, so we decided a private home would make the most sense. But how could we find the right one? There is a company here in the Valley that offers private homes for events, but we did not go that route because you are required to use a select list of vendors. We simply wanted more flexibility. I found some web sites that list homes for rent, but after calling a number of them I realized that they really don't want hundreds of partygoers running through their place and disturbing their neighbors. Another problem is that we are too picky. We wanted a Craftsman-style home on a large lot that was private, centrally located, with ample parking, and large enough to house our most important wedding guests for a few days. Oh, and we wanted it all for under $6000. Wishful thinking, right?

As our date of May 15, 2010 loomed closer and closer, I started to get nervous. I was starting to feel like we were going to end up settling for something that was just "okay." Then it landed in our laps. Last Friday night, we had some neighbors over for a few beers. One neighbor brought her close friend Jeff along and he began asking Andy about our wedding plans. Andy explained that we had it all figured out, except our venue.  After he described what we wanted, Jeff said, "I know where that house is!"

It turns out that Jeff knew a gay couple that owned a 6,000-square-foot Craftsman style home on a acre with a private back yard, a copious amount of parking, and sleeping room for 22 guests. We called Jeff's friends, toured the home, and fell in love with it! We are renting the home for three days and looking forward to having our closest friends and family share this great time in our lives on such a spectacular stage!

Miami Beach, Part Two

Guest Blogger :: Alejandro

Did you not read part one? Start there then read here.

While I prefer to spend most of my time in the water on South Beach, venturing outside to the rest of Miami Beach is a must.  Immediately west of South Beach you’ll find shopping on Collins Avenue.  North of there, on Lincoln Road is Lincoln Road Shopping Center. This has to be one of my favorite spots outside of South Beach.  It’s about four blocks of pedestrian walkways with what else--shopping, as well as lots of little restaurants. No one is hassling you to sit down at their tables here. This is a great stop for an evening bite before heading out to the clubs (which close at 4 a.m., FYI). There are clubs and hotel lounges all over Miami Beach, so choose wisely.

After a long night of imbibing, a great spot to soak up the alcohol is the 11th Street Diner, located on 11th Street and Washington, a couple blocks west of Ocean Avenue.  This is a must-see whether you’re finishing up your night or you are looking for “hair of the dog” later that morning, as they are open 24 hours a day.  This is truly some great diner food!

Now comes the interesting part, venturing off the island of Miami Beach.  One of the reasons that I truly love this city is my people. ¡Bienvenidos a Miami! The Latinos are all over and we dominate the town.  It’s practically a requirement to speak Spanish. You’ll find hundreds of hole-in-the-wall restaurants to sample different Latin dishes. Cuban, Colombian, Puerto Rican, Peruvian…you name it, they’ve got it.  Another benefit of being off Miami Beach is that prices for food, drink, and accommodations go down considerably.

If you haven’t gotten it yet, a vacation for me is eating, a little shopping, and a lot of fun with the one you love.  Miami is a great spot to escape the daily worries of life and truly unwind and spend some quality and quantity time with that special someone, hence why I believe Miami to be the perfect getaway for the happy couple.
